The armed forces of India will create an agency to combat threats in cyberspace, said the head of staff of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army. This agency will take effect as soon as possible.

The agency being created will become interdepartmental and will not belong exclusively to the army. At the same time, it will be formed from the army, air force and navy. The new structure is designed to repel attacks in the network space.

The creation of an agency for the protection of cyberspace, commanded by a lieutenant general, is overseen by the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Indian Armed Forces. The agency will not become a purely command structure, but will solve practical problems of repelling cyber threats. The units of this structure will operate in various states of India, the agency’s officers will also be part of military units.

Recall that last year was a record for the number of cyber attacks on India, the number of which grew by 10% over the year and came close to 1 million. According to Indian media, 40% of all attacks were carried out from computers in China, 25% from the US and 25% - from Pakistan.
