The University of Washington, according to Planet Today, has created an app for EarHealth, a smartphone that will help identify ear infection disease at home. As part of the work on the application, scientists analyzed thousands of case histories to create a testing algorithm.
The main marker of developing infection is fluid accumulation in the middle ear. And now you can determine the presence of fluid using the phone. It is necessary to roll the paper sheet in the shape of a funnel, the neck of which must be attached with adhesive tape to the bottom of the smartphone. The base of the funnel should be installed in close proximity to the auditory canal.
The EarHealth application generates a continuous sound signal of 150 milliseconds, comparable in frequency to the chirping of birds. The signal is reflected from the eardrum and re-captured by a mobile phone. If there is fluid in the middle ear, the frequency of the reflected sound wave changes. The accuracy of diagnosis in this way is 85%.
