A new generation of robots launched February 12, 2020 | 03:22 / Technological innovations

Engineers from the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) have developed a robotic arm capable of performing everyday tasks just like a human arm: for example, pouring water from a bottle into a glass or cutting paper with scissors, reports EurekAlert! with a link to the KIMM website.

A new robot arm simulates the structure and movement of a human hand. She has four fingers and 16 joints. For the movement of each finger and joint, 12 engines are independently responsible. Strength sensors and tactile sensors imitating the skin are attached to the fingers and palms of the hands. Force sensors can measure the magnitude and direction of force at the tip of a finger when a robot arm comes into contact with an object. And tactile sensors measure the distribution of force in the contact zone when the robot’s hand touches the object.

The device itself weighs only one kilogram, but it can withstand a load three times its weight, nanonewsnet.ru  reports.

An artificial arm can be installed on any robotic platform. It is expected that the mechanism will find application both in everyday life and in industrial work. In addition, it can be used as a research platform to study the robot capture algorithm.
