On December 25, Academician Rasim Alguliyev, vice president of ANAS, director of the Institute of Information Technology, attended the opening ceremony of the High-Performance Computing Center (HPC) at Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry (ASOIU).

The academician who spoke at the event, first of all, on behalf of the ANAS leadership congratulated the university staff, faculty and students on this significant event. 

R. Alguliyev emphasized the tasks arising from the Decrees of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic “On the rules for the formation, maintenance, integration and archiving of state information resources and systems” dated September 12, 2018, and “On measures to create a government cloud (G-Cloud) and provide cloud services »June 03, 2019.  He noted that today the establishment of the High-Performance Computing Center at ASOIU, which occupies a special place in the higher education system, is very important.

The scientist spoke about the services provided by the AzScienceNet Data Center and drew attention to the capabilities of high-performance computing systems that serve to process and store complex tasks from computing and storage resources. R. Alguliyev recalled that since 2016, AzScienceNet has joined the European Association of Science and Education Networks (GEANT) and represents Azerbaijan in this organization.

Vice-President of  ANAS also spoke about the importance of the EaPConnect (Eastern Partnership Connect) project covering the countries of the Eastern Partnership GEANT. 

“Terrestrial wealth of the 21st century - land oil” is the data, emphasizing the ANAS vice president, noted that it is necessary to study Big Data analytics and technologies for data mining, information security, the study of cyber-physical systems, cloud technologies, electronic state, scientific and theoretical problems software engineering, artificial intelligence, socio-information technologies and other priority areas.

Also speaking about the significance of the achievements made by countries belonging to supercomputer technologies, R. Alguliyev noted that the training of qualified personnel in supercomputer technologies is important for our country. He drew attention to the importance of processing materials, data collected in separate electronic social institutions of electronic government, the Internet of things and cyber-physical systems, ecology, seismology, as well as in other areas.

Then, academician, Rasim Alguliyev recalled that since the beginning of the 2000s, scientific research in the field of supercomputer technologies has been carried out at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS, and highly qualified scientific personnel have been trained in this area. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the HPC Center and the scientific computer network AzScienceNet and the Data Center of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and High Technologies.

Then, the rector of Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry Mustafa Babanli expressed gratitude to academician Rasim Alguliyev, noting that the HPC Center, which began its activities at the university, with the support of the Institute of Information Technology and AzScienceNet network, will achieve new successes in the future.
