Institute researcher’s article published in journal indexed in Scopus and Web of Science

The article “Detecting and countering battery-depletion attacks in wearable medical devices,”  authored by Shakir Mehdiyev, chief engineer at the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education, has been published in the International Journal of Information and Computer Security, which is indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.

The paper highlights that as modern wearable medical devices (WMDs) become increasingly complex and interconnected, they face serious new security risks. In particular, life-sustaining devices such as pacemakers, insulin pumps, and neurostimulators are critically dependent on a stable power supply, making them potential targets for battery-draining threats.

The study explores the possible causes of increased energy consumption in the context of sensor operation, computational processes, and cyberattacks on communication modules. To counter these vulnerabilities, the paper proposes an approach that combines adaptive power management with a lightweight intrusion detection system tailored to the specific characteristics of WMDs. The article emphasizes the importance of applying energy-efficient and proactive strategies to enhance the resilience of these devices against potential cyber-physical threats.

Additionally, it should be noted that the International Journal of Information and Computer Security has an impact factor of 0.6.
