Academician Rasim Alguliyev: "The Institute of Information Technology will continue its activities in accordance with new strategic tasks"

The annual reporting meetings of the structural departments of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education have commenced.

Speaking at the meeting of the Institute’s Scientific Council, Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and Director General of the Institute, noted that President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev had set new strategic tasks for the country’s scientific community during the event marking the 80th anniversary of ANAS. According to the academician, these tasks directly affect the content and strategic directions of the Institute’s research in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and cybersecurity.

The Vice-President of the ANAS stated that, following the transfer of several ANAS institutes and organizations to the Ministry of Science and Education, the activities of these entities are now evaluated based on new principles, and tasks aligned with modern challenges are set for them. In this regard, the preparation of the Institute of Information Technology’s annual report for the current year in line with the new requirements is of particular importance.

The academician emphasized that the Institute’s 2025 report marks a key stage in the transition to the new activity plan: “Updating the Institute’s research directions and identifying current scientific challenges to support the implementation of state policy in the fields of science and education are among the main tasks ahead.”

Academician Rasim Alguliyev stated that in recent years, the Institute of Information Technology has established collaborative relations with both the country’s universities and leading international scientific and educational centers, and several memoranda have been signed. The Director General noted that these collaborative relations provide wide-ranging opportunities for joint scientific research, exchange programs, and the application of advanced practices.

“Against the backdrop of the challenges reflected in the state strategies, concepts, and programs defined by the country’s leadership, the Institute must reassess its resources and maintain transparency as a fundamental principle in the management of science,” emphasized Academician Rasim Alguliyev. He added that the multi-criteria evaluation of staff performance is one of the key mechanisms for developing the Institute as a modern scientific center that meets contemporary requirements and generates new knowledge.

The Vice-President of the ANAS noted that significant steps are currently being taken by the Institute of Information Technology to implement progressive funding mechanisms aimed at stimulating the intellectual contributions of employees engaged in productive scientific work and enhancing their social welfare. He emphasized that participation in grant projects holds great importance within this framework. According to the academician, all measures being implemented constitute a key component of the reforms that enable the institute to operate more flexibly and effectively in the new environment.

Academician Rasim Alguliyev stated that the Institute of Information Technology has entered a new stage: “In the new environment, achieving high scientific results, enhancing the reputation of scientists in society, creating new knowledge—one of the institute’s core tasks—actively participating in state assignments, and effectively transferring scientific and technological innovations to society require the full mobilization of every employee, with active contribution to the process.”
