The prospects for the development of the green digital economy were discussed

At the next joint scientific seminar held at the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education, a report by the institute's employee Khayala Abdulhuseynova on "Comparative analysis of international experience in the formation and development of a green digital economy" was delivered.

Opening the seminar, the head of the department of the institute, Professor Alovsat Aliyev, noted that rapid technological development and the widespread use of digital tools are transforming all spheres of life while also creating new environmental challenges. He emphasized that proper management of digitalization from an ecological perspective is of particular importance for developing sustainable development strategies and creates conditions for the formation of a green digital economy.

Then, Kh. Abdulhuseynova provided information in her presentation on the essence of the digital and green economy, their interrelation, and the impact of digital technologies on the environment. She noted that although digitalization creates opportunities for increasing energy efficiency and optimizing resources, it also entails risks such as the growth of electronic waste and rising energy consumption. By comparing international experiences, the significance of the strategic approaches of the UN, the World Bank, and other organizations was emphasized.

The presentation also highlighted the existing technological, social, and institutional challenges in the development of the digital green economy model, including infrastructure inequality, financial constraints, personnel shortages, and insufficient regulatory frameworks.

Kh. Abdulhuseynova provided information on Azerbaijan’s projects in this field, highlighting green energy zones, renewable energy initiatives, and the implementation of “smart city” and “smart village” concepts.

Then, Associate Professor Bikas Agayev highlighted the importance of the efficient use of natural resources and the application of innovative technologies for the green economy. He emphasized the importance of managing e-waste resulting from the increasing use of electronic equipment.

Finally, Professor Alovsat Aliyev stated that the integration of digital technologies—artificial intelligence, Big Data, IoT, and other innovations—into the green economy will enhance ecological sustainability and shape a sustainable economic model for the future.

At the seminar, extensive discussions were held on the topic, questions were answered, and it was recommended that an article be prepared based on the research findings and submitted to a reputable scientific journal.
