A meeting was held with the delegation from the International Core Academy of Sciences and Humanities, including Professor Li Lei, Member of the Executive Board; Professor Yingsan Geng, Member of the Council; Dr. Raymond J. Wu, Executive Vice Secretariat-General; and Ms. Lianzhi Liu, Secretariat Assistant.
Academician Rasim Alguliyev, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and Director General of the Institute of Information Technology, delivered a comprehensive speech on the institute's history, core activities, scientific and innovative projects, and priority research areas serving the strategic interests of the state.
The scholar discussed the institute's current research in key areas, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Software Engineering, Natural Language Processing, Cyber-Physical Systems, Digital State, Digital Medicine, Cybersecurity, Deep Learning, the Internet of Things, and Big Data Analytics.
Academician Rasim Alguliyev stated that President Ilham Aliyev's visit to China and the high-level agreements reached prove that the strategic partnership between the two countries has entered a new phase. The academician noted that Azerbaijan-China relations have been developing dynamically in all directions recently, with cooperation particularly expanding in the fields of science, education, innovation, and digital technologies.
The scholar stated that the widespread application and development of digital and AI technologies have been identified as one of Azerbaijan's main priorities in the context of the realities created by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and expressed the Institute's interest in establishing cooperation with prominent, influential science and education institutions in China and studying that country's long-standing experience in science, education, and innovation.
Professor Li Lei, a member of the Executive Board of the International Core Academy of Sciences and Humanities, delivered a speech highly appreciating the measures implemented in Azerbaijan for the development of science, innovation, economy, culture, and other fields. He noted that the historically formed scientific, cultural, and economic relations between Azerbaijan and China are of a strategic nature and added that these relations also create broad opportunities for cooperation in the field of AI and digital technologies.
Then, Professor Li Lei provided information on the activities of the International Core Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He drew attention to the fact that the Academy conducts research in the fields of mathematics, computer science, information technologies, and AI. Stating that the Academy currently has 10 scientific-educational schools and over 10,000 students, Li Lei also noted that research is conducted there on the application of AI across various sectors, including energy security, information systems, healthcare, education, and industry.
He also underscored the importance of developing high-level specialist training, scientific experience, and information exchange between Azerbaijani and Chinese scientists in relevant fields, expressing confidence that this cooperation will yield mutual benefits for both sides.
Subsequently, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation was signed between the Institute of Information Technology and the International Core Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The Memorandum outlines joint scientific research, participation in grant projects, organization of seminars and conferences, and exchange of personnel and experience in priority areas such as AI, data science, cybersecurity, and other priority directions.
During the meeting, a broad exchange of views was also held on developing cooperation between the two institutions, and it was emphasized that the Memorandum of Understanding will present new opportunities for further strengthening scientific ties between the countries and achieving more effective results in the fields of science and education.
