Problems of digital medicine discussed with Professor of Chicago State University

A meeting was held at the Institute of Information Technology under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan with Professor Nadeem Fazal from the College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy of Chicago State University, USA.

Academician Rasim Alguliyev opened the event by discussing measures taken to identify the problems and priorities of digital medicine in Azerbaijan, noting that the development of digital healthcare is one of the main priorities of state policy in the modern era.

The Vice-President of ANAS spoke about the scientific research carried out in the field of digital medicine at the institute, noting that certain results have been achieved by the institution's scholars and specialists regarding digital medicine, the formation of medical demography, and the application of advanced digital technologies in digital medicine. He also provided information on research being conducted in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Natural Language Processing, Cyber-Physical Systems, Cybersecurity, Deep Learning, and Big Data Analytics.

Emphasizing the increasing relevance of applying artificial intelligence in medicine within the context of contemporary global challenges, Academician Rasim Alguliyev highlighted the importance of taking institutional measures and training highly qualified personnel in the fields of medical informatics and digital health formation in our country.

Then, Professor Nadeem Fazal informed the event participants about his scientific-pedagogical activities and achievements in the field of teaching and research and spoke about the implementation of innovative learning mechanisms to increase the efficiency, accessibility, and quality of the educational process.

He also detailed his research concerning microbiology, immunology, physiology, and infectious diseases, and the results obtained from applying AI technologies in these specific fields.

The scholar gave a lecture titled "The Future of Healthcare: Personalized Medicine," outlining the contemporary global processes in the field of medicine. He stressed that medical education is no longer limited to traditional models, as new directions are emerging in the field, with the application of AI technologies gaining increasing importance. "It is predicted that the future physician will combine human knowledge with the capabilities of AI, leading to new AI-based diagnostic possibilities in medicine; however, the role of the medical expert will remain indispensable for an accurate diagnosis," he added.

Professor Nadeem Fazal addressed the application of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in medicine, modern educational approaches, and quality enhancement in medical training, referencing the USA experience and highlighting existing challenges and future tasks.

Following the speeches, a comprehensive exchange of views was held on topical issues such as improving the content of medical education, developing new textbooks, and integrating digital healthcare into the digital state, etc., with participants addressing questions.

During the meeting, ideas and proposals were exchanged about establishing bilateral relations with the Chicago State University, including staff and experience exchange, joint research, participation in grant projects, holding conferences and seminars, and signing a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation.
