The national project presents: an algorithm created by researchers of the Tomsk Polytechnic University, allows you to determine the quality of products using a smartphone.
The project of Olga Voskoboinikova, senior lecturer at the Department of Automation and Robotics at TPU, offers a way to determine the quality of milk not by the expiration date and without the use of special equipment. The proposed algorithm relies on a color change of the product, which can be determined visually or using a smartphone. Reagents in a special polymer matrix interact with the product and change color depending on the storage time. The matrix itself was developed by specialists from Tomsk State University, and TPU scientists modify it using reagents. A prerequisite for the matrix to work is its contact with the product, which does not affect the taste of the latter. Scientists plan to incorporate such matrices into existing product packaging at the production stage.
According to the chanel «Наука», the young scientist won a grant under the UMNIK program of the Innovation Assistance Fund. The development can be used to determine the quality of both milk and other products - for this it is enough to change the composition of the matrix and select certain storage conditions. The composition and dosage of reagents for each product is obtained experimentally. Control of food parameters is important at all stages of the product life cycle: production, packaging, delivery and storage. Existing control methods require a certain training of personnel and the availability of special equipment, which is not available to the mass consumer. As Olga Voskoboinikova notes, the project is to automate product quality control in order to exclude the subjective component. An algorithm is being created with which every consumer can get information about the quality of milk directly to their smartphone.
