A base is being created that will control robots on Mars

Russian, Italian and American scientists have proposed the creation of a long-term inhabited base on Phobos, with the help of which remote control robots on Mars, the Royal Readings abstracts say.

"The creation of such a base may be due to the fact that in the future, conducting an in-depth study of Mars and managing the construction of infrastructure on the planet may be convenient not directly from the surface of Mars, but using an intermediate inhabited base on Phobos," the theses of the report of scientists from the MSTU Bauman, MARCH and Universities of Genoa and Houston.

Among the advantages of the base on Phobos, they named its significant cheapness compared to the base on Mars, as well as the possibility of comfortable tele-robot control on the surface of Mars in real time, since the signal delay will be only 0.02-0.03 seconds.

Scientists noted that since the soil of Phobos is basically a loose mixture of dust and larger stone fractions of low density, as well as a very small acceleration of free fall on the surface, the "use of existing construction methods is almost impossible."

Therefore, they proposed a special technology for creating the base, including the installation of anchor supports, which are buried in the ground when impacting with the surface when landing at high speed. Then robots are delivered to the base, which pull ropes between the supports for moving, provide transport operations, landing and launch of spacecraft, and also dig pits for the placement of base modules.

According to ria.ru, according to scientists, the initial crew of the inhabited base will be six people, who will be accommodated in one module. In this module there will be sleeping places, a kitchen, places for hygiene and training, a pantry, a repair shop and equipment for controlling robots.

In the future, the base is supposed to be equipped with a module for the partial reproduction of consumables, with a greenhouse and equipment for biomedical experiments, as well as a module to increase the degree of crew comfort and ensure shift changes.
