The Center for Industrial Engineering of NITU "MISiS" together with the NPO "MAGNETON" created an MRI device that can receive patients weighing up to 250 kilograms. Foreign analogues are able to accept a patient with a maximum weight of 150 kilograms. At the same time, the mass of the device itself is almost 1.5 tons lower than that of foreign analogues, while maintaining power and an increased working area (15% more body volume is examined).
According to meddaily.ru, today the average cost of one MRI scan in Russia ranges from 4000-12000 rubles. The new tomograph will reduce this price by half, the developers promise. Also, the duration of the study can be reduced by increasing the area of the transmitted image.
At the same time, the operation of the new MRI unit does not require a powerful cooling system, because the power consumption does not exceed 1 kW. According to scientists, their tomograph can be powered even from solar panels and wind generators. The test sample is already assembled. Mass production should start in 2-3 years.
