On December 10, 2019, Head of the Department of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS, Ph.D., Associate Professor Farhad Yusifov, as the national coordinator for ICT in the Horizon 2020 program, took part in a meeting dedicated to the Horizon 2020 program at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. The head of the department who spoke with the report noted that information and communication technologies (ICT) are one of the priority areas that determine Europe’s global competitiveness. At Horizon 2020, ICT mainly supports development in science, industry leadership and social issues. In the Horizon 2020 work program, especially for 2018-2020, multidisciplinary topics cover many areas related to ICT.
The first Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies (ICT-LEIT) program, adopted as part of Horizon 2020, encompasses a complete innovation chain with a balanced response to the main challenges, problems that Europe faces in this area, and shows the need for a faster transition from a high level of scientific research to the market: “In the ICT program section, six main areas of activity are identified: components and systems of a new generation, advanced computing, the Internet of the future, t content technologies and information management, robotics, micro and nanotechnologies, photonics. In addition, the program includes a number of multidisciplinary topics, including artificial intelligence, 5G, cloud technology, cybersecurity, the Internet of things and human-centric research in the digital age, ”he said.
According to the scientist, the European Commission said that the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program budget would spend about 6 billion euros on the ICT sector. The funds form part of the budget allocated to research and innovation in the amount of 30 billion euros, and it is assumed that the program will be used at the last stage, covering 2018-2020.
