As it is known, the V Republican conference "Actual multidisciplinary scientific-practical problems of information security" is taking place today. The conference is attended by researchers and specialists in the field of information technology (IT), as well as media representatives from relevant government agencies, universities and research institutes of ANAS.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, the President of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, said that the protection of personal data is an integral part of one of the most fundamental human rights, as reflected in Articles 3 and 12 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.
Mehdiyev noted that privacy and personal data protection have historically been an important and vulnerable issue, but the recent development of information technology, the emergence of the Internet, mobile phones and other electronic devices and services makes this issue even more relevant. He emphasized it is necessary to protect personal data globally, not just within a single country.
He spoke about the rapid development of information technology in Azerbaijan. Internet infrastructure covers the whole country, in our country, people are provided with a high level of freedom of speech and the Internet, our citizens are actively using various social networks, e-commerce and other services. These factors make personal data protection in our country more relevant, he emphasized.
The academician said that the issue of personal data protection should be approached as a whole, from the point of view of national security, and, above all, citizens should take care of their personal data, handle them, and consider the characteristics of the virtual environment.
He noted that in the protection of personal data, not only the government but also the agencies operating in the business and civil society sectors - Internet service providers, mobile phone operators, various registry services and other organizations - are responsible.
"Despite the adoption of legal and technological measures for the protection of personal data, it should be admitted that there are still a number of scientific and theoretical and practical problems expected to be addressed in this area”, he emphasized. Today's conference is dedicated to these pressing issues and their solutions, and each of the issues discussed here is very essential in terms of protecting the rights of our citizens and ensuring national security.
The academician noted that in Azerbaijan, a strong legislative base, which is aimed at the high level of protection of human rights and freedom, meets the most up-to-date requirements.
He emphasized that the protection of personal data is the multidisciplinary scientific problem, and therefore, along with other scientific areas, information technology researchers must thoroughly explore personal data protection processes and develop appropriate software products and algorithms with extensive intellectual capabilities.
R.Mehdiyev said that the reports presented at the conference were dedicated to the technological, legal, organizational, socio-economic and cultural aspects of personal data protection and highly appreciated the participation of representatives from relevant government, business and civil society sectors.
