Artificial intelligence helps plastic surgeons to define "beauty parameters"

OneZero has published a study on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in plastic surgery. The authors found that in the US, already 35% of companies offer to change the appearance of customers using algorithms. However, some researchers worry that AI cannot make such decisions so far and this threatens with a “unification of beauty”.

About 35% of companies in the United States use technology where customer photos are pre-analyzed by artificial intelligence (AI) to create 3D face rendering that realistically displays movement, appearance and facial expression, hightech.fm reports. The tool then analyzes the potential changes and notes what percentage of the attractiveness growth the client can achieve if he agrees to a particular operation.

Another popular AI application for plastic surgeons is the BioMedX and Crisalix instruments, which show patients 3D models of how they will look after surgery. However, one of the problems of the software is that the parameters can change with different lighting, age and even skin tone.

Some experts interviewed by the author of the OneZero publication noted the danger of passing beauty ratings to the algorithm. Some of them note that an AI error can lead to irreparable consequences, and some researchers fear a sharp unification of people's appearance. The use of AI in aesthetic evaluations can destroy the cultural diversity of beauty.
