Medicated medical dressings can be applied directly to wounds using a nebulizer. According to The Daily Mail, Montana University of Technology relies on electrospinning - the process of producing polymer fibers as a result of the action of electrostatic forces on an electrically charged stream of polymer solution or melt.
It is these fibers that are proposed to be placed on wounds, receiving a controlled release of drugs. Drugs are woven into fibers, which allows you to speed up the healing process and reduce the risk of infection. It also eliminates the need to constantly change dressings. According to the developers, the composition of the material can be changed depending on the tasks.
Scientists have introduced a portable device for electrospinning with a limited electric field. Instead of using only electricity to lay the fibers in the target area, the new device uses air to spray the fibers, like a spray can.
