Volocopter turned an aerotaxi into a cargo drone

The German company Volocopter has announced the development of a cargo drone Volodrone, which was based on the creators put an electric air taxi. According to the company, a new device capable of transporting cargo weighing up to 200 kilograms is already undergoing flight tests.

The company explained the development of VoloDrone by customers' requests for the development of a cargo unmanned version of the Volocopter air taxi. The new drone can be used for transportation of goods, in construction, as well as in agriculture. The new all-electric drone will be able to fly up to 40 kilometers away.

The height of VoloDrone is 2.3 meters, and the diameter of the ring frame with propellers is 9.2 meters. The drone has a flat body with long landing gear, between which you can fix the load on a standard cargo pallet. In addition, the drone can transport liquid cargo or special equipment installed by the customer.

VoloDrone will be able to fly both under the control of the operator and in automatic mode on predefined routes. Other details about the new development have not yet been disclosed.

The prototype of the Volocopter 2X air taxi, which the company has been developing since the beginning of 2010, is equipped with an annular frame with 18 propellers above the hull. Air taxi capacity is 160 kilograms with an empty weight of 290 kilograms. Volocopter 2X can fly up to 27 kilometers at a speed of 70 kilometers per hour.

Earlier, Volocopter 2X aero taxi made its first flight in the city; tests were conducted in Singapore. The device took off from the VoloPort air taxi site, which the German company developed together with the British company Skyports.
