The American company Boston Dynamics has long gained popularity thanks to robotic mechanisms of its own production. This time, the developers published a new video on the Internet demonstrating how the Atlas humanoid robot does different tricks. In the new video, Atlas performs a small gymnastic program, which includes several somersaults, a handstand, a 360 ° jump around its axis, as well as a jump with legs spread apart in different directions.
It is noteworthy that the robot performs all actions in a sequential chain, and not separately. The description of the video says that the developers used the “predictive model controller” to move from one action to another. The controller helps the robot to monitor its actions. This allows you to effectively balance without losing balance after performing various movements.
The fact that the developers from Boston Dynamics managed to shoot a video with the Atlas robot, which successfully performs the sequence of actions, this does not mean that this always happens. According to published data, the updated Atlas robot model successfully performs actions in 80% of cases. From the description of the video, it becomes clear that out of five attempts, one is unsuccessful.
It is worth noting that Atlas continues to develop successfully. Last fall, the developers published a video that showed how the Atlas robot copes with overcoming obstacles in its path.
