In mid-July, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the creation of French space forces, and the first information about the weapons that they will have available has already appeared on the network. In the European media were published details of the program, in which French satellites will become a real military.
According to the Minister of Defense of France, by 2030, the country will put into orbit a constellation of satellites that will carry laser and machine guns on board. For these purposes, 4,300,000,000 euros will be allocated from the military budget by 2025. Part of the money will be spent on upgrading the French network of military communications satellites, and the next generation of devices will be equipped with suspension arms to neutralize the satellites of a potential enemy.
The head of the ministry claims that the goal of the new system is not attack, but defense, and the satellite armament plan does not violate the international space treaty of 1967, which prohibits the use of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in outer space.
