Selection and application of optimal routing protocols discussed

17 April 2019 - 12:00 | Conferences, assemblies

The next scientific seminar of the department No.4 was held at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS.  Deputy Director for Technology, Ph.D., Associate Professor Rashid Alakbarov said that the seminar was devoted to the topic of "Selection and Application of Optimal Routing Protocols". Tofig Nazarov informed about the router connecting one network to another. Communication between networks is established by the route manager who identifies the optimal route to the destination station and sends the data to the next router along that route.

The routing protocol, which determines the distribution of information that allows to select routes between any two junctions on a computer network, is a "traffic management" on the Internet, he noted.

According to him, although there are many types of routing protocols, the type 1 and 2 of the interior gateway protocols, as well as the exterior gateway protocols are widely distributed on IP networks.

T.Nazarov said that the configuration and maintenance of static routes for the network administrator are often demanded because dynamic routing protocols are used: "Increasing the number of routers by the growth of companies expands the use of dynamic routing protocols. Dynamic routing protocols are the best choice among large networks."

The speaker then provided detailed information on the Routing Information Protocol, its superior and disadvantages.

T.Nazarov spoke about the advantages and disadvantages of the OSPF (Open Short Path First) dynamic routing protocols, the EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol), developed by Cisco.

The speaker informed the Border Gateway Protocol.
