Artificial intelligence leads the United States and Japan

Humanoid robots that can compose music and draw, diagnose, do operations or do house cleaning, machine translation and voice recognition programs, cars without drivers - over the past 50-60 years, researchers have filed patent applications for 340,000 such inventions. This is stated in the first report of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the development of artificial intelligence.

Since the mid-50s of the last century, inventors and researchers have applied for almost 340 thousand inventions based on artificial intelligence. In recent years, such products are increasingly penetrating into our lives and greatly facilitates them.

To date, the largest patent portfolio on artificial intelligence technology - 8,290 inventions - is held by the American company International Business Machines Corp (IBM). In second place is also a company from the United States Microsoft Corp., which has 5,930 inventions. The top five in terms of the number of patent applications for intellectual property products are the Japanese company Toshiba Corp., the Samsung Group from the Republic of Korea and the NEC Group from Japan.

As for universities or government research organizations, the Chinese are leading here. China accounts for 17 of the 20 scientific organizations leading in the pace of patenting developments in the field of artificial intelligence. In addition, China occupies half of the top 20 positions in the ranking of the number of scientific publications in this area.
