Smart traffic lights will fight traffic jams

New traffic lights with built-in cameras on metropolitan roads will evaluate the flow of cars and build the appropriate work algorithm.

According to Mail. Auto referring to an interview with the first deputy general director of Shvabe holding, Sergei Popov, traffic lights with a new design and expanded functionality will appear in Moscow by the middle of 2019. In addition to their usual duties, they will offer drivers routes with fewer traffic jams.

On the basis of "smart" traffic lights, it is planned to develop a system that will reduce the number of traffic jams on the streets of the capital due to the proper organization of road traffic of road transport.

A special algorithm using cameras built into the traffic lights will count the number of cars and determine the flux density in a particular direction. This information will be transmitted to traffic control systems at DPC, which will have to promptly respond to traffic and reconfigure the work of traffic lights.
