The new algorithm, created by Chinese engineers, allowed the robot to explore the world with the help of a drone and automatically map it.
The algorithm builds a map of the area using data from the drone, and the ground robot sends to finish building this map on the longest part of the border. Thus, the device is motivated to explore new areas.
Paired with a four-wheeled robot with a lidar, a quadrocopter works, with its stereo camera pointing down. The joint study allows devices not to engage in the study of areas that have already been discovered by a partner.
As part of the algorithm testing, the devices were located in a room measuring 17 by 8 m, and also in a room 20 by 20 m. As a result, Chinese scientists concluded that a joint exploration of space is several times faster than a single.
