Researchers from the laboratory of computer science and artificial intelligence MIT presented a new tool for image editing. Using AI, the SSS photo editor determines the exact boundaries of objects and can change the background.
SSS works with the technique of semantic segmentation - dividing the image into pixels. The program automatically recognizes the difference between the main and background objects.
Unlike tools in other image editors, the technology does not require human involvement - the neural network has been taught to work independently.
"Not every pixel refers to only one particular object in the image," explains one of the authors of the study, Yagiz Aksoy. - Often the pixels of the background are difficult to distinguish from the pixels of a particular object. " However, SSS has learned to find their boundaries and determine the exact contour of any objects.
Above the technology continue to work - while editing the image takes at least 4 minutes, and with video SSS is not working.
