Research on web spam is underway

Next scientific seminar of Department 16 was held at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS. ThePhD student of the institute Khayyam Nuraliyev presented the report on "Web spam: general information, problems and solutions".

He stated that web spams are websites or web pages that attempt to deceive the information-search systems and manipulate its results to gain a high ranking position. Today, although it is forbidden to use search spam to promote more web sites, it is widely used in practice.

Speaking about the relevance of the topic, the reporter noted that the use of web spam has a negative impact on the effectiveness of search engines and search results, and ultimately the searcher. The main problem created by web spams is the creation of unnecessary ("deceptive") content that causes problems in search engines.

Then, Khayyam Nuraliyev informed about context spam. He said that these spams would be interpreted as adding keywords and phrases to the main text of the site or website, overcharging, content mixing. There are several ways to create context-specific spam, which include repeating keywords, inserting them into the content of the page, and so on..

"Referral spam is a widespread and safest type of search spam," the reporter said, adding that the essence of these spams is artificial manipulation of references to various Internet resources.

According to him, PageRank, TrustRank, Google Penguin, Google Sandboxuen, Google Panda and so on. Methods are used to combat web spam. Web spams also have some types such as click spam, cloaking and redirection, term and survey spams.

Kh. Nuraliyev also presented statistical data on the distribution of web spam by domain names and languages ​​in the world and informed about conferences in this area.

The exchange of views on the report was made, and it was recommended to deepen the research in this direction.
