Next scientific seminar of department №4 was held at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS. The colleague of department Orkhan Mehdiyev delivered his report on "Green ICT: Current Situation, Opportunities and Problems". Green Information Technology (IT) - Green IT (Green Computing) is an initiative aimed at minimizing the adverse effects of information and communication technologies (ICT) and the harmful effects on the environment. This initiative is based on the latest achievements of science, administrative resource (laws, standards, certifications) and environmental culture or thinking. He said Green Computing was first proposed by the US Department of Environmental Protection in 1992.
O.Mehdiyev informed about the development of Green Data Processing Centers. He said that the highest indicator in 2016 was observed in North America.
The speaker then spoke about the distribution of energy consumption in the Green Data Processing Centers. According to him, in order to reduce energy consumption, MICROSOFT will place its Green Data Processing Centers in water basins. According to him, refrigeration systems, which make environmental risks, are abandoned: New magnetic refrigeration systems start to be produced industrial.
He also provided information about the Bloom Energy server. He said that the main task of this project is to create energy within the Green Data Processing Centers. Ordinary Green Data Processing Centers use the city's energy infrastructure. The direct duty of the 21st-century Green Data Processing Centers is the use of independent energy and adequate reduction of financial costs.
Speaking about the impact of the rapid development of technologies on ecology O.Mehdiyev noted that it is one of the main factors in the violation of ecological balance. He noted that air pollution remains the greatest threat to environmental risk. According to the World Health Organization, 7 million people die each year as a result of air pollution. Green ICTs and technologies that can be used in this area can save millions.
Along with the reporters, the reporter spoke about the leading green IT companies, their energy ratings, the Dual Intelligent Processors technology, and the Thin Client systems concept. According to the results of 2015, he presented the energy efficiency scheme of the 10 most "green" supercomputer in the world.
At the end, deputy director of the institute, doctor of technical sciences, associate professor Rashid Alakbarov noted proposals and remarks related to the report and recommended to deepen research in the field of green ICT.
