British engineers from the company CMR, specializing in the production of medical equipment, announced that they have completed the development of an inexpensive, compact and practical robot capable of competing with its large "relatives" and intended for delicate operations.
The developers of the company Cambridge Medical Robotics said that their new robot is called Versius, its dimensions are barely more than 60 by 60 centimeters, and the price is almost two times lower compared to similar devices.
The robot will be able to perform operations in which the patient is not required to make large incisions, but only small holes with a diameter of up to one centimeter are sufficient. Such operations also require delicacy, so the robot will be very flexible - its manipulator in its properties is very similar to the human hand, and all actions of the robot can be monitored on a three-dimensional display, to which Versius will be connected. This will allow the surgeon-operator to do everything faster and more efficiently.
A working prototype of a miniature robot surgeon will be available next year, hi-news.ru reports.
