Robot-guard "drowned" in the fountain

Robot guard K5, developed by Knightscope, for no apparent reason, "drowned" in a fountain near the shopping complex "Washington Harbor" in Georgetown, writes TJ.

According to the representatives of the shopping centre, the robot was purchased recently for patrolling the parking lots of the shopping centre and is now in the testing stage, according to which its work is planned to be optimized. According to witnesses, K5 independently went to the fountain and ceased to function after falling into the water.

Photographs of the robot drowned quickly swept the social network, and many users were able to practice in wit. For example, one eyewitness noted that humanity was promised flying machines, but in the end, people only got robots with suicidal tendencies.

Representatives of Knightscope told Buzzfeed News that it was an "isolated case", which is being investigated. The company also promised to send a new autonomous guard to the Washington Harbor within a week.

The K5 robot is an autonomous system for monitoring suspicious activity. It is equipped with a camera, a microphone, a thermal imager, a laser rangefinder, and a radar. K5 can patrol premises or open territory, and when suspicious activity is detected, the robot calls for help and starts a live broadcast of the image from the camera, hitech.newsru.com reports.

Note that this is not the first incident related to K5. So, in July last year, a robot Knightscope, working in the shopping centre of Stanford, knocked down a 16-month-old baby and then moved it. According to the mother of the boy, the robot pushed her son in the head, after which he fell to the floor face down. At the same time, the robot did not stop and continued to move. As a result, the mechanism weighing over 136 kg moved the child's leg, leaving a wide and conspicuous mark on it. Fortunately, this incident was limited - the baby's bones remained intact.
