Academician-secretary of ANAS, director Information Technology Institute, academician Rasim Alguliyev delivered a report on "Big Data and supercomputer technologies: problems, problems and tasks" at the Presidium of the ANAS on July 5, 2017. Big Data was one of the global challenges of the 21st century, and the scientist pointed out that international organizations were highly appreciated by Big Data and several strategic plans and projects were adopted in the area of its potential use. The European Commission has invested 120 million euros under the Horizon 2020 program for Big Data research.

According to R.Algulieva, the analysis of Big Data and the results of the newest innovations are the urgent multidisciplinary tasks of current science: "This is the way in which new science has been created, and Data Science and new specialists (Data Scientist )".

The reporter noticed  that Despite the expanding capabilities of AzScienceNet Data Center, the e-science network platform, the resources of the center are not used effectively. Data Center and Big Data analytics technologies are not used at the appropriate level for the collection, storage and processing of data acquired as a result of research carried out in various fields of science. Noting that these problems are multidisciplinary, the scientist emphasized the great need for preparation of universal staff (Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Data Engineer) for their solution.

Taking into consideration the challenges of international organizations and the urgency of the problem, R. Alguliev noted that since 2013, research has been started in this direction in our country. He noted that starting from 2014, projects of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS funded by the Science Development Fund under the President of SOCAR and the AR President, grant projects devoted to various problems of Big Data were fulfilled and work is underway in this direction.

Noting that Grant projects on various issues of Big Data have been implemented since 2014, the academician said that   work in this direction has been continued. For the first time in the CIS, in 2016, jointly organized by the Presidium of the ANAS and the Institute of Information Technology, the I republican scientific-practical conference on "Big Data: Opportunities, multidisciplinary problems and perspectives" was held.

Speaking about the state of the research in the field of Big Data and supercomputer technology in our country, reporter said that models for the synthesis of virtual supercomputers based on computer networks are being developed, and effective repetitive methods are being developed for Big Data clustering. He noted that in our country 20 scientific articles, 62 conference materials in the sphere of Big Data and  54 scientific articles and 44 conference materials in supercomputer field were prepared.

The speaker pointed out the necessity of personnel training in the field of Big Data, Data Science, software engineering and supercomputing technologies, and noted that first of all, highly qualified personnel should be trained in the master's and doctoral studies of ANAS.

At the end, the Presidium of ANAS, taking into consideration of R. Alguliev's report, has made a decision on  implementation of necessary measures to ensure staff training (bachelor, master, philosophy doctor) on Big Data analytics, supercomputer technologies, Data Science, software engineering fields, increasing the efficiency of using resources of the AzScienceNet DATA Center, Strengthening Integration to AzEduNet, GEANT , Ensuring that Big Data resources collected by scientific institutions are stored in the DATA Center, realization of scientific and methodological support for scientific institutions in the field of Big Data and supercomputer technologies at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS.
