A robot named Shimon was created by a group of researchers from the Technological University of Georgia. Thanks to the technologies of deep training combined with neural networks, he not only mastered the game on the marimba, the Malaysian percussion musical instrument, but he himself is trying to compose music.
To do this, he had to "listen" to more than 5000 pieces of music, including Beethoven and Lady Gaga and "dig into" a music library containing more than 2 million tunes of different styles and directions. In short, Shimon received a decent musical "education", allowing him to start a career as a composer.
The authorship in the creation and training of Shimon belongs to the musician and at the same time the graduate of the University Mason Brittany together with his scientific leader Gil Weinberg.
The development of musical skills of the robot is as follows: the researchers provide him with various musical information, on the basis of which he masters the technique of the game - sequencing, including improvisation. You can already talk about a certain style. According to Brittany, Shimon is more "fond" style fusion - a mixture of classical music and jazz.
Despite some success, Shimon is unlikely to ever compete, for example, Beethoven or Bach. However, those who write music for show business, in time, there may be cause for concern.
