One of the world's largest automakers, the Japanese company Toyota introduced its vision of a flying car of the future. From all the others the concept is different in that representatives of the car concern declare the release of a full version of the flying car for the start of the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020. According to the idea of the creators, the flying car will have to participate in the opening ceremony of the Olympics, so the project is likely to be published at the appointed time.
To realize their idea, the Japanese invested 42.5 million Japanese yens (about 375,000 US dollars) in the Cartivator project. The technology using several rotors, used for the flight of this vehicle, is very similar to that used in most modern drones. The project of a flying car from Toyota received the code name SkyDrive.
SkyDrive is a single-seat three-wheeled vehicle equipped with 4 rotors, whose dimensions are 2.9 meters long and 1.3 meters wide. If the concept does not undergo significant changes, SkyDrive will be the smallest flying car in the world. When traveling in a "traditional" way (that is, on ordinary roads), a car can reach speeds of 100 kilometers per hour, and the declared speed of travel by air is 150 kilometers per hour with a minimum flight altitude of 10 meters. Having a similar design to the drones, SkyDrive is equipped with a vertical take-off and landing system.
For the development of the car manufacturers have attracted a huge group of engineers not only from the automotive industry, but also from the aerospace field. At the moment, the authors are extremely optimistic and plan to release the first prototype in the coming year. In addition, it is already being discussed that SkyDrive can be used to deliver the Olympic torch and torch burning at the central Tokyo stadium during the opening of the Olympics in 2020.
