Google with the participation of the Chinese Yi Technology has developed a new camera for shooting 360-degree and VR-video. Yi Halo is an array of 17 cameras that can shoot stereoscopic video at a resolution of 8K at 30 frames per second or 5.8K at 60 fps.
The novelty is primarily aimed at filmmakers and other professionals involved in video shooting. It will be sold for $ 18 thousand. For comparison, the cost of the "spherical" Google Jump camera, which uses 16 GoPro cameras, starts at $ 8,000, hitech.vesti.ru reports.
The Halo complex uses modified 4K-cameras. Unlike Surround 360 (Facebook camera for $ 25,000), Yi has one more camera, which is located above the user's head and provides shooting of 360 degrees. Also, Halo comes with a mobile application that allows you to control the artificial horizon line.
Yi Halo will be available to a limited number from May 22. The first 100 cameras will be distributed to filmmakers shooting in VR format.
