29 March 2017 - 12:08 | Conferences, assemblies

A regular scientific seminar of Department No.4 was held at the Institute of Information Technology. A report was delivered by the colleague of the institute Orkhan Mansimzadeh .

He said that since the beginning of 1990 as a result of the rapid expansion of the Internet,  IPv4 addressing system became insufficient and the need transition to a new system was  highlighted, he noted. In order to overcome the disadvantages of IPv4 protocol , a new version of the Internet Protocol - IPng (Internet Protocol Next Generation) or IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) was developed  under the leadership of the "Internet Engineering Task Force 'committee.

IPv4 is not enough for the point to point to addressing and use of the inverter mechanisms as "Network Address Translation" became mandatory, Orkhan Mansimzadeh noted. In order to protect the confidentiality and integrity of information, provision of IP networks security, as well as, development of  existing automatic IP configuration procedures became necessary.

Speaking about the advantages of IPv6, the reporter said that use of long (128-bit) structured address is the main feature.  Security procedures are conducted through Internet Protocol Security – IPsec. He also presented statistics of IPv6 in the world and Asia, and informed about its use in Azerbaijan.

In the end, there was an exchange of views on the subject, many questions were answered.
