The researchers created the Smartify application for iOS, which recognizes unfamiliar pictures from the photo, tells about their author and the history of creation. This writes "New Scientist".
Smartify works with image recognition algorithms and recognizes the picture when a smartphone camera is pointed at it. The application gives the name of the picture, its author, the creation years, and also gives a brief information, strana.ua reports.
At the time of launch, Smartify identifies works from the Wallace Collection, the Dutch Rijksmuseum, the Animation Museum in London, the Laguna Beach Museum in Los Angeles, the Sluice exhibition in New York, halls 4 and 20 of the National Portrait Gallery in London, as well as some of the paintings from The Louvre Museum and the Metropolitan Museum. The application recognizes the picture, even if it is printed on a sheet of paper or postcard.
The application will be launched in May, but it is already published in the App Store and is available for download. The Android version will appear later.
