A next seminar held at the Electronic Library Center of the Institute of Information Technology was dedicated to subject “Analyses of Scientometric indicators of "Scopus" database’’. A report was introduced by senior research fellow of institute Narmin Adigozelova. She informed about citation index, impact factor, eigenfactor, H-index definitions and their history. A citation index an index of citations between publications, allowing the user to easily establish which later documents cite which earlier documents, the impact factor (IF) of an academic journal is a measure reflecting the yearly average number of citations to recent articles published in that journal, she said. H- index was suggested in 2005 by Jorge E.Hirsch. The definition of the index is that a scholar with an index of h has published h papers each of which has been cited in other papers at least h times.
She also gave information about normalization indicators of cited sources (SNIP) used to calculate journal indicators by the Centre of Science and Technology Studies, SJR indicators and etc. and their distinguishing features.
Classification and categorization of documents are carried out on areas, reporter noted. There are 295 subject areas grouped in 26 fields. She also gave brief information about journals covering multidisciplinary areas .
Some journals are indexed only in "Scopus" database and the single quality indicator is SJR indicator. "PageRank" (web pages ranking) method is used in heterogeneous and complex structured reference networks.
In the end, there was an exchange of views on the subject, many questions were answered.
