Projects led by the Institute's staff were awarded first and second places in the "Scientists of Tomorrow" competition February 14, 2020 | 04:13 / Important events

Winners of the IX Republican Competition of Scientists of Tomorrow held on February 11-13, 2020 in the framework of the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). The students participated in the competition on 8 areas - 1) Mathematics; 2) physics and astronomy; 3) chemistry; 4) biology; 5) medicine and health; 6) ecology and environmental management; 7) engineering and 8) computer science. Of the 370 projects, 187 competed in the final round. 

The project “Azeri Dactyl Alphabet”, prepared by the students of the 10th grade of the Lyceum of Talents at Baku State University Mohammad Isazadeh and Kanan Gasimov, won first place in the computer science nomination. The project was initiated by Yusif Imamverdiyev, a young scientist from the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS. There are more than 310,000 people with hearing and speech impairments in Azerbaijan and Azeri Dactyl Alphabet will boost the development of inclusive education in the country. The software supports Android and iOS operating systems in 3 parts. The first part is the Alphabet section. This section contains the letters of the Azerbaijani Dactyl Alphabet. The second section, entitled "Expressions," contains all the expressions used in gesture language.  The third section provides software that recognizes the letters of the dictation alphabet and gestures. The third section provides software that recognizes the letters of the dictation alphabet and gestures. This recognition system is based on artificial intelligence technology (neural network). With this mobile application, speech and hearing impaired people will be able to communicate and be integrated into the community.

The project "Plant Disease & Cause Detection using Deep Learning” developed by Ruslan Bayramov, 11th-grade student of the academic lyceum named after academician Zarifa Aliyeva, was awarded the second place as well.  It can be used by small and medium-sized entrepreneurs in farming and with the help of Deep Learning, the robot is able to detect the diseases in plants and its causes. The supervisor of Plant Disease & Cause Detection using Deep Learning is Associate Professor of IIT of ANAS Yadigar Imamverdiyev.

Of the projects submitted in 8 areas, only 6 projects were awarded 1st place and 16 projects - II place.

Recall that on February 7 at IIT of ANAS held a meeting with the students who have qualified for the final stage of the IX Republican competition "Scientists of tomorrow". At the meeting with the vice-president of ANAS, director of the institute, academician Rasim Alguliyev, the students familiarized participants with the projects prepared for the IX Republican competition "Scientists of  Tomorrow".

The Coder Hub project presented by, 9th-grade students the 10th grade of Baku European High School,  students Kamal Alizade and Maharram Akbarov were also supervised by Yusif Imamverdiyev.
