Automotive engineers designed nuts with unique contours based on the voice of the driver, hightech.fm reports. The program first records the voice track, then turns it into a physical drawing and superimposes it on the part during 3D printing. One part of the part becomes a lock, and the second - a key.

They are printed using acid-resistant and corrosion-resistant stainless steel. In order that criminals could not make a wax imprint of the pattern, each nut contains unevenly located and gradually expanding ribs and dents.

The company's engineers note that this is one of the first innovations using 3D printing, where car manufacturers have not just created individual parts. “The worst test for a driver is when they steal wheels from cars,” they added.

To create the device, they studied the needs of users. Engineers noted that some alloy wheels can cost thousands of dollars and that they need an extra layer of protection. “Product personalization is further proof that 3D printing is a turning point in car manufacturing,” Ford said.
