A sensor has been created that can scan fingerprints and vein patterns, as well as measure heart rate January 23, 2020 | 08:32 / Technological innovations

A thin and flexible image sensor that can not only read fingerprints and scan vein patterns, but also measure heart rate, was introduced by Japan Display Japan. The sensor, as noted by its creators, can be used in biometric identification systems of a new type.

Based on the sensor, it will be possible to create biometric identification systems that can, among other things, capture a pulse wave. The new solution to some extent will increase the degree of protection of such systems. The pulse wave is an individual parameter that depends on the state of the vessels and arteries, so it will be quite difficult to deceive such a scanner.

According to planet-today.ru, the new biometric sensor from Japanese developers turned out to be very thin - its thickness is only fifteen micrometers. The sensor, respectively, can be bent, which is convenient for creating wearable devices. The creation of the sensor was made possible through the integration of high-sensitivity organic photodetectors with low-temperature polysilicon thin-film transistors with high carrier mobility.

The sensor provides scanning resolution above 500 dpi and produces more than forty frames per second. An article on technology development appeared in Nature Electronics.
