For the first time in the United States a live robot developed January 14, 2020 | 03:31 / Technological innovations

Scientists have created completely programmable living creatures from frog cells. They are an artificial organism of living cells that can be controlled like a robot. This is stated in a study by scientists from the University of Vermont and Tufts University.

Each robot has a length of about 1 mm. Scientists called the development "xenobots" - in honor of frogs of the Xenopus laevis species, whose embryonic cells formed the basis of the devices.

Robots are made from skin and heart cells taken from frog embryos, assembled in stable forms developed by a supercomputer, and placed in a Petri dish, hightech.fm reports. Skin cells give organisms a shape that resembles a drop with four “legs”, while heart cells pump blood inside organisms and help them move.

Tests have shown that organisms are able to swim inside the fluid from several days to several weeks, working only on the accumulated germinal energy. In groups, as a rule, they swam in a circle and could even push the granules into the center of the container inside which they moved.
