For the first time, an unmanned passenger drone was tested in the United States.

As part of the EHang 216 flying taxi test, the device successfully flew with several volunteers on board. One was North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. Testing took place in the city of Raleigh.

In the future, the Chinese company EHang, the developer of this drone, plans to obtain permission for long-term testing of the device with volunteers on board.

EHang had previously tested its unmanned taxi in China and Austria, hightech.fm reports.

The  EHang 216 is made according to a quadrocopter with eight pairs of coaxial propellers in the corners and a passenger cabin from above on the central part of the hull. In total, the device will be able to transport two people with a maximum speed of up to 160 km / h at a distance of up to 80 km. It is planned that it will be possible to fully charge the EHang 216 in 30 minutes.

The official launch of EHang 216 in mass production is scheduled for 2025. First, flying cars will be delivered to Asia, from where the company has already received several hundred orders. Each EHang 216 car will cost from $ 400 thousand.
