On November 22, a scientific-practical conference was held on the theme: “Application of innovations in economic and statistical research”, organized by the State Committee on Statistics of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Center for Scientific Research and Statistical Innovations.

At the plenary session, the head of department of the Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS, Ph.D., associate professor Alovsat Aliyev, spoke on the topic “Issues of assessing the innovative prospects of the sectors of the digital economy”. The speaker noted that the modern economy is developing with the use of innovation and high technology. He noted that to ensure the sustainability of economic policies and reforms in the world, new strategies for economic development are being developed.

The speaker added that as a result of the widespread introduction of information, technologies and knowledge, there is a serious need to assess the level of the developing digital innovation economy, and therefore, he emphasized the need to develop a system of indicators at various levels for an objective assessment of the level of development of the sectors of the digital economy.

A. Aliyev informed about the indicators of the digital innovation economy. He said that in 2019, according to the report of the Global Innovation Index among 130 countries, Azerbaijan ranks 84th, and on a longitudinal scale of 0-100 it occupies 30.21. He noted that along with the characteristics of a regional and sectoral approach to assessing the level of sectors of the digital economy, there are many approaches, indicators, methods, indices to assessing the level of the digital innovative economy.

The conference continued its work in breakout sessions on the topics: innovations in economic research, the introduction of innovations in statistical production processes, modeling of social, economic processes (econometrics), prospects for the transition to a digital economy (transformation).

At the meeting of the section, a senior researcher at the Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS, Roza Shakhverdiyeva, made a report "Directions for improving the information support of innovative processes and structures."
