Alexa voice assistant helps investigate U.S. homicide November 04, 2019 | 02:26 / Technological innovations

Hallandale Beach City Police is investigating the killing that recorded the Amazon Echo device - it recorded the couple’s quarrel and the moment of the murder. Amazon police asked for audio tapes that might contain something useful. The company agreed to disclose the data.

Florida police investigating a woman’s death during a home quarrel have received audio recordings from several Amazon Echo devices.

Speakers always “hear” conversations, but do not always record them. Smart speakers use and analyze pieces of audio inside to detect words like “Alexa,” “Ok Google,” or “Hey Siri.” If these words are not, the sound is not recorded.

Amazon has emphasized in a statement to CBS that it does not transmit customer information unless it is a “legally binding order”. At the same time, employees refuse if the request seems to them to be "extremely inappropriate."
