Facebook plans to launch encrypted audio and video calls November 01, 2019 | 05:43 / Interesting information

In 2016, Facebook launched the Secret Conversations feature, an end-to-end chat encryption that anyone can turn on. Now the social network is testing this security system for audio and video calls.

The social network Facebook plans to expand the capabilities of its Secret Conversations feature. According to journalist Jane Manchun Wong, who parses apps to discover unreleased features, the social network is testing audio and video calls through Secret Conversations.

In 2016, Facebook launched Secret Conversations, a feature that encrypts messenger chats to protect them from hacking. The application uses the same encryption as WhatsApp from Facebook.

Recently, the social network announced its plans to implement end-to-end encryption in all of its products, including Instagram. However, the US authorities are concerned about the possibility of investigating cases of child sexual exploitation, terrorism and election interference that take place on the Facebook platform. So far, the final decision on the introduction of the function has not been made.

Journalists claim that to use the function in the Messenger application, you will need to click on the profile photo, go to the Secret Conversations section, and then turn it on. After that, no one except the user and the recipient will be able to read the chat. In addition, the conversation will only be visible on the selected device.
