A new technology developed in the USA opens the way to detailed monitoring of the action of drugs aimed at cancer cells, as well as to the analysis of pathogenic processes in the body.

A group of American scientists has developed a technology that performs nanoscale CAT-scanning in a liquid medium. The new method allowed scientists for the first time to observe living biological materials in three dimensions. The work is published on the website of the University of Pennsylvania.

Scientists were able to analyze the interaction between the host cell and the pathogen. The team tracked molecular mechanisms in real time, watching how the virus attacks the cell.

Thanks to a new visualization method, scientists have already received new information about the interaction of bacterial cells and bacteriophages, which in the future can lead to the destruction of resistant bacteria.

The technology can be used both in biology and materials science, the authors say. However, the team’s primary goal is to monitor new drugs that are being tested for cancer.
