In Australia, the technology has evolved to give drivers a way to use phones September 24, 2019 | 02:44 / Technological innovations

Australian authorities have installed cameras that will take pictures of drivers using social networks while driving. So far, technology will be tested in only one state of the country, and violators will be fined $ 230.

Australia's road safety experts are worried about the growing number of car accidents involving drivers using smartphones. They claim that drivers using telephones increase their chances of getting into an accident four times.

“It seems to us that drunk driving is on the same level as using a mobile phone while driving, and that’s why we want everyone to know that drivers can be arrested or fined for it anytime, anywhere,” authorities said countries.

The government intends to deploy 45 mobile phone detection cameras in one of the states. After that, the number of cameras will increase.

Each of these systems contains two cameras. One of them photographs the license plate of the car, and the second, with a high lens position, is aimed at the windshield and can fix what the driver’s hands are busy with.

Initially, AI is used to determine if the phone is in the photo. Then, photos with “suspected illegal behavior” are sent for human verification. If the assumption is confirmed, a fine of $ 230 will be sent to the driver.
