Boeing Tests World's First Tank Drone September 22, 2019 | 07:02 / Technological innovations

Boeing has shown on the network the tests of its new development called the MQ-25 Stingray.

The first flight lasted two hours and passed in the airspace of the city of St. Louis in Illinois. The refueling drone conducted autonomous taxi tests, and then took to the air and flew along a predetermined route. In addition, the tests were designed to verify the operability of the communication of a drone-refueling tanker from Boeing with a ground control station.

Two hours later, the tests were completed successfully. The Boeing MQ-25 Stingray tanker drone was designed for deck based aircraft carriers. The order came from the U.S. Navy and, after successful checks, the U.S. Army intends to order 72 vehicles totaling $ 13 billion.

A refueling drone will be able to deliver eight tons of fuel at a distance of up to 930 kilometers, which will allow air refueling from four to six fighters. In addition, the fuselage of the Boeing MQ-25 Stingray tanker drone is planning to install devices that will help it participate in intelligence and information gathering.
