Ambulance drones will appear in South Korea September 17, 2019 | 09:25 / Interesting information

Starting next year, the South Korean National Park Service may begin to use drones to deliver first aid equipment in the highlands. As reported by Ronhap agency, in total South Korea plans to purchase 32 quadrocopters.

"Drones have a number of advantages, sometimes their use is the only way to help," said the Ministry of Environmental Protection, which includes the National Park Service.

As explained by Yonhap, an unmanned aerial vehicle has greater mobility and is able to arrive at a place faster than ambulances who would have to overcome a difficult mountainous terrain. In addition, the drone can deliver medicine to a place where a medical helicopter cannot land.

The aircraft will be equipped with a first-aid kit and a defibrillator to provide urgent assistance to tourists who are far away in the mountains. The device is able to locate victims using GPS technology, and infrared and thermal cameras allow you to determine the exact location of the victim.

The effectiveness of drones in delivering first aid was tested during tests in the suburbs of Seoul in Bukhansan Park, which is very popular among mountain walkers. The first copy arrived there in December 2018.

According to Yonhap, drones need to be improved on some systems, especially GPS technology.

"The designers continue to search for solutions. The final delivery time depends on the results of these studies," said a service representative.

In March 2019, the US logistics company USP announced that it would deliver drugs to one of the Raleigh hospitals using a drone.
