As is well known joining the GEANT network infrastructure that provides services to all science and education institutions across Europe since 2016, AzScienceNet research and education network represents Azerbaijan in this organization.

As part of the EaPConnect project, which is implemented to expand network infrastructure for research and education in the Eastern Partnership countries, significant measures and large-scale projects are being implemented.

One of these activities is related to the allocation of backup channels to the Data Centers of GEANT member countries. Thus, according to the requirements of the Data Centers' standards, these centers should be provided with standard channels as well as backup channels. So far, the speed provided by AzScienceNet via backup channel was 500 Mbps.

A new optical line has been installed to improve the backup of AzScienceNet's Data Center. From September 1, of the current year, the speed of the Internet provided by GEANT via the new optical line through the backup channel is 1 Gbps. Thus, the speed of the backup channel of the AzScienceNet network has been increased from 500 Mbit / s to 1 Gbit / s.
