Startup Cerebras released the world's largest artificial intelligence chip August 21, 2019 | 10:50 / Technological innovations

At the Hot Chips conference, Cerebras introduced the world's largest artificial intelligence chip Cerebras Wafer Scale Engine, consisting of 1.2 trillion transistors - a record number for a single chip. About this writes Venture Beat.

The chip measuring 203 by 229 mm consists of 400 thousand cores and 18 GB of memory, which allows information to be transmitted at a speed of 9 Pb / s. The power consumption of the device is 15 kW. The new chip is 57 times larger than the largest processor from NVIDIA.

According to representatives of Cerebras, the new chip will allow you to train artificial intelligence at a speed of several minutes. All existing processors do not allow the machine to learn at this speed due to the fact that they consist of several chips. This reduces the speed of information transfer, while in the Cerebras device this happens almost instantly.

The description of the device does not say how the developers arranged the processor cooling system and protection against current leakage.

Earlier, HiTech spoke about the principles of Moore’s law - the speed of development of computer technology in the 21st century and the mechanisms that inhibit technological progress.
