Rega air rescue drone can autonomously search for missing persons April 22, 2019 | 10:36 / Interesting information

The engineers of the Rega aviation and rescue organization in Switzerland created an unmanned helicopter capable of finding missing people on their own. This writes New Atlas with reference to the company.

The device is equipped with a variety of built-in sensors, including a daylight camera, a thermal imager, an infrared camera and a sensor to monitor the phone. This allows Rega to scan a vast area and search for people lost in dense forest or in the mountains.

The algorithms of an unmanned helicopter in real time analyze data from sensors and determine the areas in which people can be. For example, a drone may notice movement and report it to the operator.

The drone is equipped with three blades with a diameter of just over 2 m and is able to fly at altitudes up to 80-100 m. The UAV has already been tested for two years, and the device will begin to make independent flights in a year - in 2020.

Previously, AVX Aircraft and L3 Technologies aircraft manufacturers presented a design of a high-speed coaxial chopper for combat and reconnaissance missions, which in the future may come into service with the US Air Force.
